Unfill

I'm getting ready to go to the doc for a slight unfill.  I have had A LOT of acid reflux the last few days and even though I feel hungry quite a bit, I know that acid reflux is a sign of a too tight band.  So, my hope is that my issues relate to the tightness and fixing it will only help.  Perhaps because I'm too tight, I'm not making the best eating choices and not getting enough water.  At any rate, I need to take care of the band first, and then focus on how it affects my eating.  At the very least, I will FEEL better than I have this weekend and will get rid of the nasty feeling.  :)  I will keep you updated.

Getting Soft or Out of Shape?

When I ran my first 5K, it hurt.  I was only running about 1.5 miles at a time in training and had never run more than 1.75 miles, I don't think.  My SIL ran by my side and helped me push through.  I did not stop running the whole time and even though it was hard and it hurt, I wanted SO BADLY to finish running.  So I dug deep and I did it.  Likewise, the next three 5Ks (with Lizard, then BFF, then myself), I did the same thing.  I remember thinking during each of them that I just couldn't do it anymore, but I kept pushing.  Each time, I did it.

But then you get to my last three and...not so much.  While it's not like my times have been absolutely horrible, (I've been within a minute or so of my best times), I do not push myself like I did before.  Likewise, my workouts have gotten lazier.  Well, except for Jazzercise.  I do that consistently and I put in effort when I'm there.  That's why I'm starting the CrossFit.  I'm really hoping that it helps me get that competitive edge back.  I think that if I can do that, more things will settle into place.

Weekend

I had the most wonderful weekend!  Friday night, BFF, Lizard, & I went to see Something Borrowed.  I loved the little impromptu outing with two of my favorite people, but I hated the movie.  I just can't be entertained by a movie where people are screwing over their friends and/or cheating on their significant others.  I don't think it is charming, I don't think it is cute.  I do love John Krasinski though, so he helped me get through it.  :)

Saturday, I got up to do the 5K.  I wanted to cancel, but I promised my friend Lish that I would go.  So, I got there and she was on her way.  I picked up our numbers and chips.  I was concentrating on making sure I didn't mix up the chips because they went with the specific numbers.  I put on my number as she got there and she pointed out that I had put on her number.  Well since I already had on her chip, we just went with it.  She said that when she crossed the finish line, someone yelled out my name.  HA!

I ran some errands and did some relaxing, then Lizard and I went to church.  I was so glad we did so I didn't have to get up in the morning!!  We met at Fuzzy's Taco Shop.  YUM!

Ronnie scolded me for hiding in the back, but I promise I wasn't.  See Debi next to me?  :)  She was the tallest, then me.  It may not look like it, but all my other friends are shorties.

Then we headed over to the Aardvark to see Bowling for Soup.  There were two opener bands and LONG waits in between, so everyone was exhausted by the time BFS took the stage at 11:30.  But we hung for a little while.  And I got my pic with lead singer, Jaret.

I actually really like this picture.

I woke up yesterday and tried to be somewhat productive.  This week should be a fun one (as should be every week in June!)  My goal is 4 Jazzercise classes and CrossFit on Saturday.

Happy Monday!

BYOC

I usually lose track of time and don't get to BYOC, but here I go!

It’s FRIDAY – which means it’s BYOC – Bring Your Own Crazy…around these parts. We answer a couple of questions to get to know each other better and to give our blog brains a break. Copy and paste to your own blog if you so desire…and ENJOY!!

1. If you could pick any name on Earth for yourself – would you change yours and what would it be?
Honestly, my name is my name, so I wouldn't consider changing it.  I do sometimes wish that my parents would have gone with Elisabeth instead of just Beth, but mostly I'm Beth Ann and I have no problem with that.  I do think if I was named Elisabeth, I would like to go by Eli.  I have always that that was cute.

2. If you’re a worker-outer…what time do you partake in such activities? There are SO many theories about when it’s best and not best to work out….like the morning is better since you have an empty stomach or the night is not good because you won’t be able to sleep…etc, etc. – so I’d like to hear your theories.
I typically work out at lunch or after work.  But on Saturdays, I work out right after I get up.  I think I have a little more energy to put into a work out in the morning, but I don't like getting up early enough during the week to do it.  So, basically for me, I work out when my schedule will allow it.  :)

3. If you drive a car – what kind is it and if you could drive any car – what would it be?
I drive a lime green Ford Fiesta that I call my Skittle.  I LOVE it!!  It has been in the shop getting the hands-free unlocking system fixed and I miss it.  Before this I drove a Ford Escape for several years.  I really thought I wouldn't love something so small, but I do!  Right now, it is the right car for me.

 4. Can you be totally honest in answering this next question and tell me what you think of tattoos? More importantly – what do you think of the people who have tattoos – specifically women?
I have a tiny rose tattoo on my hip that I got on bid day in college.  I also plan to get another tattoo when I reach my goal weight.  So, obviously I don't dislike them.  :)  On guys, I think they are super sexy.

Total honesty:  I have no issues with tattoo's on girls at all.  However, I must admit as part of a package, I might make a snap judgement.  For instance, a girl with super low-cut jeans with a tramp stamp and a thong that shows?  I'm gonna judge.  But it is not because of the tattoo...it is because of the package.  If a girl is put together well and has some art?  I love it!

5. Repeat question: Summarize your week in blog land and in real life.
Real life seems to have calmed down a bit.  Just in time to start going nutso again!

Blogland is awesome since I finally caught up on all my blog reading.  :)

Hugs!

It's Friday!!!!

This is going to be a FUN weekend!  Tonight, BFF, Lizard & I are going to the movies.  I told BFF to choose, so I'm betting we go see Something Borrowed.  For me, Friday movies means popcorn for dinner!  BAD, but YAY!

Tomorrow morning, I have a 5K.  Yes, I do realize I did one on Monday.  But we have established that I don't always think things through rationally.  My thought was if I did the race in the morning, I wouldn't feel guilty about eating and drinking that night!

After at stop at church, me & the girls are going out!  We are having dinner at Fuzzy's Taco Shop which is one of my favorite places.  They have the best queso evah!  Then after, we are going to see Bowling for Soup.  I know I mentioned that yesterday, but it is worth mentioning again today!  :)
Watch it.  I love these guys!

Anyway, since I'm going to church Saturday, I can sleep in on Sunday and I have a massage scheduled at 1pm.  What a great plan!!!

Changing the subject...I need to drink more water.  I don't know why I don't drink enough.  I used to drink a ton, but now I don't.  I keep telling myself to drink more.  I have access to bottles, I often fill up a big glass and put it on my desk.  I mean there really is no excuse.  I think if I was better hydrated, it would help with my hunger, my fitness...everything!  I just have to figure out how I get it done.

Have a super-fab weekend!

Thursday Update!

I have LOTS to talk about today, so let's get started, shall we??  Happy Thursday to you, angels!

Olympics

I believe that because of my Memorial Weekend hiatus, I neglected to blog about my Olympic ticket request results.  Not the best, I'm afraid.  I hadn't received a response, but I logged onto my account on the website and it indicated that my results were in.  Out of the 5 events I requested (3 swimming, 1 diving & 1 random beach volleyball game), I only got the one random beach volleyball game.  At first I was devastated, but then I got over it.

Turns out that they were only able to fill about 4.5% of the swimming requests.  Apparently they were only about to fill .5% (that is point five, not five) of the requests for the opening ceremonies.  I didn't request them, but I thought that was interesting.  Anyway...I'm not sure if that is indicative of how many people are REALLY going to go or if people were just requesting them for sale or maybe would only go if they got tickets.  I don't know.

Regardless, I'm going.  I spoke with my SIL and she agrees that we are moving forward.  There are still a couple of ways we might be able to get tickets before we go and we will exhaust those options.  But as I told my SIL, if my worst case scenario is watching Olympic events with actual Olympians on a Jumbotron in the middle of the actual Olympic Village...and then when we get tired of that, we can visit Westminster Abbey?  That just DOES NOT suck.

Onward!  That said, if any of you all have any Olympic connections, email me!  :)

CrossFit

For those that are curious, this video is a good, quick overview of what CrossFit is.

Obviously there are things that I could not currently do, but like it says, it is scalable and I can work up to it.  I emailed the gym yesterday morning to tell them about myself and ask them their thoughts on me joining the program and I'm disappointed to say that they have not returned my email.  I had a bad experience with my last personal training (basically I thought he was a douchebag), but I want to give it another shot.  It would be nice to get some enthusiasm.  Oh well, maybe they are on vacation.  I'm just one of those folks who needs to walk through things first.

I have received so much amazing feedback on the program from anyone I ask.  My SIL's sister, B-Doo is a fitness beast and she highly recommends it.  I think that might have been what clinched it for me.  If my body could somehow looks like B-Doo's, that would just be unbelievable.  But I have to go for it, right??!?

** As I was finishing up this post, I got an email from the gym.  They said absolutely everything I wanted to hear.  She said that her twin sister had gastric bypass which comforts me so much!!  She also said that they will work with me on the Fundamental class schedules.  Looks like I will be going on 6/11.  ::Deep breath::  I have tears in my eyes right now which I know is silly.  But I so much want to be that badass fitness beast girl.  I'm terrified, excited, and impatient.  :)  I'm doing this!

Birthday

My birthday is next Tuesday, and we are going out Saturday night to celebrat.  Some girlfriends including the Debster and I will be headed to the amazing Fuzzy's Taco Shop for dinner.  After a few of us are going to see Bowling for Soup.  I LOVE that band!!
That is one of my favorite songs!  I can't think of a better way to spend the evening.  On my actual birthday, my friends at work (which for the most part are my besties anyway) are taking me to lunch and I think I'm going to choose Ziziki's which is my favorite Greek restaurant.  After work, my plan is to work out at the gym downstairs and then BFF, maybe Lizard, & I will go out for some super awesome treat like a bigass sundae or something.  :)  (BFF had mentioned going to dinner, but I decided that I wanted to do the workout/treat combo so I didn't get in too much of a hole with calories.  No guilt on the birthday!!)

I can't get over what a fun birthday month this is going to be!!

Weight

This morning I was already down two pounds from Tuesday.  I felt sure that some of the weight gain was bloat, but it always feels better to see the scale tell me it is so.  I revised some of my future goals.  I knew I was being ridiculously aggressive. But I didn't want to let go of them too much.  I'm hoping that my 10-day super focus with Debi and my start at Cross Fit will give me a jumpstart.  But if not, that's okay too.  I'm really continuing to learn to live my life in conjunction with my weight loss journey.  No putting life on hold anymore!!

Just when I was done with plans...a new plan!

Next Tuesday, I turn 37 years old.  At 37, I will be in the best shape I have been in since high school.  I'm very proud of that.  I think you all know that I have been a little funkalicious lately.  I set goals, but I don't really get anywhere with them.  This has been going on for a few months.  Losing and gaining the same 5 pounds over and over.  My workout routine is stale...all I'm really enjoying is Jazzercise (which is super fantastic, but 2-3 Jazzercise classes per week is maintainenceville for me, not weight loss mode.)

I would consistently be disappointed in myself for not doing what I set out to do.  Don't get me wrong, I'm not doing NOTHING.  I still work out more than most people I know.  And I'm not binging or anything.  But I'm living in a way that is more akin to maintenance than for weight loss.  So, last week or so, I decided that I would just accept mainenance mode until I was truly ready to get serious.  It was ridiculous to continue to set goals that deep down I did not have any intention of meeting.  I actually said those words to my mom last night and I meant them.

Then I got home last night and I watched Extreme Makeover Transformation.  I found that I was fascinated with the workouts, just like I am with the Biggest Loser.  I started thinking how great it would be to be in BETTER than high school shape by age 38.  Why shouldn't I wear size 8s to the Olympics?!?!  I even went online to see how much a week at the Biggest Loser ranch would cost.  Interestingly, it isn't nearly as much as I expected.  But then I realized that it would just be a week.  So, CrossFit came to mind.

I have two fitness buff coworkers that swear by CrossFit.  One of them (happens to be the President of my company) told me a couple of months ago that I should do it and I dismissed him immediately.  They talk about their workouts and I couldn't POSSIBLY do the things they talk about.  But watching this girl on EM:T work out, I realized that in order to be able to do those things EVENTUALLY, I have to start somewhere.  So I started looking at the website and I started to think that maybe it is doable.

This morning I discussed with one of my coworkers and he told me that another coworker had just started.  I went and talked with him and got the scoop.  His fitness level was a little more comparable to mine.  He said it was by far the hardest work out he has ever done, but he liked it.

I sent an email to the training center I'm considering and told them my situation.  I will see how they respond.  But assuming they are all for it, my thought is that I will try the introductory free class next Saturday 6/11 or the following 6/18.  Since I'm on vacation the last two weeks of June, I would start the beginner level fundamental classes in July.

I'm terrified.  But I'm also excited.  I'm competitive with myself, but I have gotten to the point where I'm bored with what I'm doing.  I think this will give me some motivation.  Unless it is TOO hard.  I will let you know!!

Anyway...the point of all that, is just yesterday, I was blah.  I was okay, but not really motivated.  But something inpired me and I'm running with it.  I'm just hoping that I can keep up the excitement through June so I don't crap out in July.  Haha!  When I'm working out hard, the good diet tends to follow.  I may not be on the exact track now, but I do have a plan.

And you all know how I feel about a plan!  :)

Hugs!
